Guitarist availible - Punk - Rockabilly - Hardcore - Join/form bandposted: November 19, 2009, 01:54 PM

27 year old guitar player from Shawnee lookin to join/form band. i am laid back, easy to work with, responsible, have reliable transportation and i have pro gear. i do not have practice space. i dont drink or use drugs and i dont have ego issues. i have previous band/stage experience. i do not have anything in the way of media for you to listen, but i am working on an ode to some of my favorite bands that will be up very soon. i suppose i can sing but guitar is my strength. i am not some guitar hero-satriani-van halen-steve vai-fret burner, but i sure know what the hell i am doing when i pick up a guitar.
now, as for the genres i would like to play: 1. Punk. first and foremost, this has been my favorite music since i can remember actually having music taste. i just love the energy and its fun to play. think Face to Face, Swingin' Utters, Strung Out, BigWig, Bad Religion, Authority Zero, MillenColin... along those lines 2. Rockabilly. I dont have as much experience playing this as i do with punk rock, but i have a greaser bone or two in my body. i dig the element of classic-meets-modern rock with that 50's flair (you out there, upright bassists? lol). think Stray Cats, Horrorpops, Matadors, Mad Sin, Koffin Kats, The Living End, Reverend Horton Heat... along those lines 3. Hardcore. not sceamo/scenester post-hardcore emo whatever... just flat-out balls to the wall heavy, fast, abrasive rock. Something aggressive that makes you wish you drove a tank to work. just pure energy and force. think MadBall, Manntis, Sworn Enemy, Agents of Man, Full Blown Chaos... along those lines if you are interested please drop me a line at RKarl876@hotmail.com. Please, do not respond if you want to do something else than what i just listed. sorry to appear stubborn, but i have been in too many bands where i had to compromise my personal style to fit the band's genre direction. i just want to do what i want to do now. hope you potential matches are out there. But even if not, from one local musician to countless others, good luck to all of you. thanks for reading my ad. • Location: K.C./JoCo

Comprehensive Guitar,Bass and Banjo Instruction with Larry Crabtreeposted: November 14, 2009, 05:43 PM

20 years experience in teaching. I now teach at Funky Munky Music at 12710 Shawnee Mission Pkwy. I've taught in the past at Big Dudes, Raymore Music and most recently The Music Stand/Gallery for the past 18 years. I specialize in a good understanding of the instrument and music. I teach in a fun environment. I like to have fun in my lessons, which makes it a more enjoyable experience. I concentrate much on the technique needed to play the instrument well and as effortlessly as possible. Good technique is one of the most important aspects of playing, and isn't usually covered well by books, videos or by many instructors. Without it, it is impossible to play any advanced material. I teach an easy to understand approach to scales, modal/chordal theory, rhythm, lead, sweep arpeggios, lightning fast runs, fingerpicking, tapping, Earl Scruggs style and technique on banjo, slap and pop, and tapping on bass. Genres are: blues, rock, heavy metal, country, classical, bluegrass, contemporary christian, funk, pop and jazz. Hours are: 1-9pm M-Th, 2-7pm Fr, and 9am-5pm Sat. Please call me at (913)722-2621. Please leave a message if no answer, or call the store and ask for my schedule at (913) 268-5555 or just respond via email. Thanks! Larry Crabtree
