Make a difference in our community by joining The Women’s Clinic of Kansas City for its 2012 Run/Walk for Life 5K on September 29th, 2012. The starting line is on the corner of Maple Street and Liberty Street in historic downtown Independence, Missouri. With hundreds of runners and walkers gathered beneath the TWC tent in the Pharaoh Theater parking lot, it will be hard to miss! Registration begins at 7:00AM, and the race begins at 8:00AM.

Runners will complete a 5K (3.1 mile) race through historic downtown Independence, past the Truman Library, and through McCoy Park. Walkers may choose either a one-mile route or the 5K route, both of which lead through the downtown Square where President Truman walked daily and past the Truman home and beautiful historic sights of Independence. Or participants can grab a cup of joe and join TWC client advocate, Carla Johnson, for her annual Coffee Crawl walking tour of the square!

By “Walking or Running for Life” you will be joining The Women’s Clinic of Kansas City in an effort to impact our community. The Women’s Clinic is a 501(c)3 pro-life medical clinic providing free medical, educational, and support services to young women facing unplanned pregnancies. Services include: free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, life skills training, parenting classes and free material needs for babies.

"Jackson County has the highest rate of teen pregnancies and reported cases of sexually transmitted diseases in Missouri; therefore, it is vital that we reach out to young women," said Deborah Neel, Executive Director of TWC. "Events such as the ‘Run/Walk for Life’ will help us get the word out and let people know that we're here to help.” According to The Women’s Clinic Founder, Debbie Stacy, “The funds raised from this event are vital for us to continue to provide our programs and support services free of charge to so many people who are in need of our assistance.”

About The Women’s Clinic of Kansas City

The Women's Clinic of Kansas City opened February 16, 2004, as a non-profit medical clinic serving Jackson County and the entire greater Kansas City area at 815 N. Noland Road, Suites 4 & 5, in Independence, Missouri. The mission of TWC is to care for the well-being and education of women, particularly as it relates to women with a potentially difficult pregnancy. Through medical, educational and support services, TWC can provide services for the complete person in confidence and free of charge. As a 501(c)3 organization supported through private donations, TWC also facilitates a youth development program called "LifeGuard" that teaches abstinence education in schools. Since the time of its opening, TWC has served over 60,000 individuals through the medical clinic and school-based educational programs.

The Women's Clinic is run by a board of directors and a medical advisory board that provide leadership and supervision of the mission. In addition, a staff and volunteer base of over 80 men and women help to carry out the day to day responsibilities of the clinic.
